Résumé : Ancient Greek bronze mirrors provided women essential knowledge about the body throughout the female life-cycle. Mirrors were vital for navigating the bodily transformations of marriage, childbirth, and death, and facilitated important social connections with a woman’s natal family, with other women, and with the divine. Although mirrors are often interpreted as simple toilet articles, or as straightforward symbols of beauty or vanity, they functioned as complex tools for the social construction of the female body in ancient Greece.
